Workshop “Recovery technologies for construction and demolition waste”
Working Group 1Context
The construction industry plays a leading role in improving the quality of the built environment, but its activities also impact on the wider environment in a number of ways, including waste production. Recent figures published by EUROSTAT reveal that construction and demolition activities in EU Member States generate 821 million tonnes waste, which equate to 33% of all waste generated in the EU. The introduction of regulations, the emergence of new technologies and practices in both waste disposal and recovery, and the rising tide of public awareness are all conspiring to change the face of construction and demolition waste (CDW) management.
Workshop aim and scope
This workshop, which is part of the COST Action “Mining the European Anthroposphere (MINEA)”, will provide a comprehensive overview of innovative recovery and recycling technologies for CDW flows in buildings and infrastructure across European regions. It will also provide a unique opportunity to discuss and evaluate the current CDW recovery challenges and opportunities.
The workshop programme will include: keynote presentations, specialised sessions and oral presentations. Representative from universities, research centres, industrial organisations, public institutions and organisations, local governments and legislators are welcome to present papers at the workshop in order to share best practice recovery and recycling strategies and technologies related to CDW flows.
