2        Description of WG Meetings

2.1        WG 1: Resource potential of construction & demolition waste

Title

Modelling the stocks and flows of the built environment

 

Description

We will bring together a group of active researchers and stakeholders regarding the characterization of built environment stocks and forecasting of construction and demolition waste generation in this workshop. The main purpose is to discuss potential meta-comparison of case studies, method standardization, and also other potential joint efforts (e.g., paper on comparison of case studies and joint research proposal) along the line with WG1 D2.

 

Outputs

A summary of workshop discussion and a first draft of WG1 D2.

 

 

2.2        WG2.1: Resource potential of waste from extractive industries

Title

Extractive industry residues in Europe: current situation and future challenges

 

Description

The workshop will provide a comprehensive overview about extractive industry residues (metallurgical and mining) in Europe. It will also provide a unique opportunity to discuss and evaluate the challenges and opportunities as well as future trends. The workshop programme will include keynote presentations and oral presentations. Representative from universities, research centres, industrial organisations, public institutions and organisations, local governments and legislators are expected to present papers at the workshop.

 

Outputs

The workshop results will be a book of abstracts and, tentatively, a review paper.

 

 

2.3        WG2.2: Resource potential of waste in landfills

Title

Specifying critical factors and related challenges for the business case of LFM

 

Description

·     Presentations by the two STSMs and maybe 1-2 additional speakers

·     Workshop I: Actor maps and assessment of main cash flows for a few simplified and archetypal LFM scenarios covering different settings and regions

·     Workshop II: Under what conditions could LFM become a viable business activity? Develop principle strategies for improving the business case of LFM

·     Workshop III: ´Working plan for joint research paper on critical factors and challenges for the business case of LFM

·     Workshop IV: Open time slot for discussions about research proposals and focus areas for the upcoming 3rd Grant Period

 

Outputs

·     Written WG meeting report incl. presentations + short written reports of the two STSMs AND summaries of workshop activities

·     Complete list of country-specific data on economic costs and benefits of processes and markets of relevance for LFM

·     Disposition and working plan for joint journal article(s) on critical factors and challenges for the business case of LFM

 

 

2.4        WG3: Resource potential of solid residues from waste incineration

Title

Recovery technologies for waste incineration residues II

 

Description

The focus will be on

·     recovery technologies for bottom ash and fly ash from WtE plants,

·     current practice and efficiency of technologies,

·     country specifics and practice,

·     perspective ways and research gaps.

 

Outputs

·     Final report on recovery technologies for bottom ash and fly ash from WtE plants,

·     Scientific paper concept/draft.

 

 

2.5        WG4: Integration of WG 1-3 & Classification and reporting of material resources/reserves
